Exclamation Interview: Pageflakes’ Ole Brandenburg
Ole Brandenburg, co-founder of Pageflakes, stopped by LaunchSquad’s office the other day and sat down for the first ever Exclamation Interview. We’re still working out some of the kinks in the presentation (like some better lighting and sound), but the story’s well worth hearing. Ole has just moved to San Francisco from Australia and he’s helping run a Germany-based company with development folks in several Asian countries. Maybe this is why Pageflakes is so compelling to Ole — providing an online home no matter what continent you’re on.
Seems like 2007 will be an interesting year in the world of Ajax home pages, lots of players and it’s certainly not clear how big a market this will be. Web Worker Daily ran a nice piece this week reviewing several of the start page offerings out there including Google, Netvibes, Pageflakes, Protopage, and Flash-based yourminis.
One thing that is clear is that RSS is playing a major role with many of these services behind the scenes. At LaunchSquad, we’ve been closely involved with RSS through our work with our clients NewsGator and Pheedo and the increasing popularity of these start pages is a good sign of the growing influence and importance of RSS as a way to move and share information.
